Vollrath Division Basics

U.S Naval Sea Cadet Corps Vollrath Division is based in Batavia, WI and serves approximately 10 cadets as of the summer of 2023.  The unit drills monthly on the first full weekend of the month, including an overnight stay for all cadets on Saturday night.

Vollrath Division drills in a privately-owned building that used to house the Batavia Elementary School.  It offers cadets both a gymnasium and classroom atmosphere as well as a full galley and plenty of outdoor drilling space.

The unit is staffed by seven adult volunteers including now-graduated cadets serving in a new capacity.  Please see our staff page for more information on these vital members of the team.

Joining Vollrath Division does NOT require you to join the military - But if you do, know that your service in the NSCC will give you a leg up during the early days of your military career.  For those that move onto college or the civilian workforce, your time here looks GREAT on a resume.

Joining Vollrath - Becoming a Shadow Cadet

We welcome anyone interested in joining Vollrath Division!

For potential cadets, we offer a Shadow Cadet program that allows a cadet and their parents/guardians to get a feel for the unit's operation prior to making a commitment - Cadets may spend the day observing the drilling operations of the unit and parents/guardians have an opportunity to meet the staff and tour the facility while learning more about the goals of Vollrath Division.  Scheduling can be flexible based on the family's needs.  Please contact the Vollrath Division Public Affairs Officer or Commanding Officer for more details.

Chart Your Course

Vollrath Division strives to provide each cadet with unique opportunities to pursue their own interests as well as moving the entire team forward.  As a cadet, you will have an opportunity to train not only locally with your unit but nationally (and sometimes INTERNATIONALLY) to other training sites.  Think of it as a student exchange program - Only without an entire summer of traveling.

Advanced training is offered in conjunction with other units across the United States as well as active US Navy and US Coast Guard installations around the country.  Additionally, in 2020 the NSCC has made great strides in offering advanced training virtually - ensuring that these opportunities are available to even more cadets enrolled in the program.

Topics include both military-themed operations as well as civilian - In addition to opportunities such as aviation, seamanship, SCUBA and STEM cadets can also participate in photojournalism, veterinary medicine, firefighting, emergency medical care, culinary/food service and professional/leadership development.
